Interactive planetary gear simulation and kinematic analysis

Engrenarium Web is a free browser-based simulator for mechanical engineering education and preliminary planetary gear analysis. It connects an interactive gear model with tooth counts, angular speeds, constraints, and transmission relationships so the behavior of an epicyclic system can be interpreted visually.

What the simulator shows

  • Visual relationships between the sun gear, planet gears, ring gear, and carrier.
  • The effect of changing tooth counts and operating conditions.
  • Simple and multi-stage arrangements for conceptual comparison.

From parameters to motion

Use the controls to describe a planetary arrangement and compare input, output, and fixed-element choices. The visualization helps explain relative motion around the carrier and supports checking whether the calculated speed relationship agrees with the modeled mechanism.

Engineering education and applications

Engrenarium supports classroom demonstrations, individual study, and early transmission analysis. It complements the Barbudenge articles on gear trains, planetary kinematics, compound systems, differentials, and transmission examples.
